The ARC8 gets the job done without any drama.

What we liked during setup and use

Getting it up and running was surprisingly easy. You just label your zone wires, mount the box, and connect it to Wi-Fi with the Rain Bird app. Seriously, you'll be setting up schedules in just a few minutes. It has all the key features you'd expect. You can create different programs, adjust for the seasons, and it uses weather data to skip watering when it's not needed. You can also turn on a zone manually right from your phone, which is handy. And believe it or not, if your phone dies or the power flickers, the controller remembers everything. It even has a spot to wire in an old-school rain sensor if you've got one.

Okay, so where could it be better? It doesn't have fancy features like flow sensors that can tell you if you have a leak. And its smart home connections are pretty basic compared to some of the pricier models out there. It only connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but honestly, that's pretty standard for these devices. The weather data it pulls is good for most people, but if you live somewhere with weirdly specific microclimates, you might still want that physical rain sensor.
